I had been talking to a model from the Grand Rapids area through Model Mayhem. She know that I took pictures of cars and offered a unique opportunity. A friend of hers had gotten 1 of 10 limited edition UFC Camaro’s. We arranged to shoot at a race track in the Grand Rapids area. Like most outdoor shoots you never know what the weather is going to do. This day was mostly overcast and very very hot. I took a few portable lights and an assistant. The lights and some hand held reflectors were enough to be able to light the subject properly.
After the shoot the car owner wanted to take the car for a drive. We simulated a start and off he went squealing off the line. Then punched into second gear and there was some fire and a pop. Out went the transmission. Unfortunately the transmission couldn’t handle the torque that the supercharged engine put out. Sad end to a great day. I was told that after being towed to a repair shop, the car now has a racing transmission that can handle the engine.
